American Mahjong · Houston Suburbs
West Wind Ladies is a warm, welcoming American mahjong league for women across our corner of the Houston suburbs. Brand-new to the game or a seasoned card-flipper — there's a seat waiting for you.
Who We Are
We started as six friends and one very loud group text. What began as Tuesday-night games turned into something bigger: a friendly, organized league where new players are taught with patience, regulars are matched into good tables, and nobody sits out alone. No stuffy clubs, no intimidating regulars — just great company over the click of the tiles.
Never touched a tile? Perfect. Our free-to-learn sessions get you playing your first hand the same evening.
Eight-week seasons with relaxed, friendly scoring. Come for the game, stay for the table talk.
We organize the tables, supply the sets and the National Mah Jongg League card, and handle the logistics so you just show up and play.
How It Works
Reach out and tell us your experience level. We'll point you to the right starting point — lesson or league.
New players join a beginner session and learn the tiles, the card, and the flow of a hand — no prior knowledge needed.
We seat you with players at a similar pace so every game feels comfortable and fun.
Join us on Tuesday evenings for eight weeks of friendly, low-stakes league play.
Learn to Play
American mahjong looks complicated from the outside and feels natural within an hour. Our First Tiles sessions are designed for complete beginners: a friendly instructor, a simple cheat sheet, and a real game by the end of the night. No partner required, no equipment to buy, no experience expected.
Already know how to play? Skip ahead — tell us when you learned and we'll slot you straight into a league table.

Eight weeks · Tuesday evenings · starting September 2026. Beginner sessions run in the weeks before kickoff.
Good Questions
Absolutely — new players are our favorite people. Most of our members started knowing nothing. Begin with a First Tiles session and you'll be playing real hands the same evening.
Neither. Come solo — we match you into a table. We supply the tiles, racks, and current National Mah Jongg League cards.
The beginner sessions are free to learn. League seasons carry modest seasonal dues that simply cover the venue, equipment, the official NMJL card, and refreshments — nothing more. We run the league at cost, as a community.
No. We play purely for the fun and the friendship. There are no cash pots and the league takes no cut of any play — dues only ever go toward running the season. It's a social club at its heart.
We gather on Tuesday evenings in the Houston suburbs. Reach out and we'll share the current season's location and times with you directly.
West Wind Ladies grew out of a women's friend group and that's the heart of our community. If you'd like to play and aren't sure you fit, reach out — we're happy to point you to the right table or a partner group.
